Sporting activities on the water
Watersport
The region offers several waters, such as Haringvliet, Volkenrak and Oostvoornse Meer, perfect for activities such as sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, canoeing and fishing. For lovers of the North Sea, there are also excellent opportunities for water sports along the coast.
Brielse Meer
Brielse Meer, located between the fortified town of Brielle and Rotterdam's port area, offers plenty of opportunities for water lovers. Along the lake you will find several marinas where you can moor freely. Enjoy canoeing, pedal boats or try water-skiing.
Noordzee Strand
Kitesurfing is the most popular activity on the North Sea beach. In Rockanje, at the Eerste Slag, you will find kiteschool Nextlevel, where you can take lessons, get certified or go supping.
Brouwersdam
Brouwersdam is one of Europe's best kite spots. With some wind, the beach fills with kiters, and the sky turns into a spectacle of “dancing” kites. Activiteitencentrum Natural High has an accredited kitesurfing school and offers supervised kite lessons. For experienced kiters, it is also possible to rent equipment on your own. Don't feel like being in the water? Then opt for kitebuggying or blowkarting!
Oostvoornse Meer
Located between the North Sea and the Brielse Meer, Lake Oostvoorne is 250 hectares in size. The lake offers excellent opportunities for water sports, especially diving. Thanks to the ban on motorboats, the water is crystal clear, and in some places up to 40 metres deep, with no current. Oostvoorne is also home to the Slufter beach, one of the most beautiful spots in the Netherlands, ideal for very advanced kiters.
De Bernisse
West of Spijkenisse is the De Bernisse Recreation Area, a beautiful area developed around the old De Bernisse river. It is ideal for non-motorised water sports, with plenty of opportunities for rowing, surfing, fishing and swimming. A perfect place for water lovers.
Haringvliet
The Haringvliet is a beautiful nature reserve and excellent sailing water, perfect for motor and sailing yachts. Via the Haringvliet locks, the North Sea is within easy reach, making it an ideal location for water sports enthusiasts.
Grevelingenmeer
Lake Grevelingen is the largest saltwater lake in south-western Europe, located between Goeree-Overflakkee and Schouwen-Duiveland. The lake is bordered on the west by the Brouwers Dam and on the east by the Grevelingendam, and lies on the border of South Holland and Zeeland.
